Winter Time Schedule
The Clinton Municipal Pool has agreed to host roll practice for the club this winter beginning Wednesday, December 3 and continuing thru May 20 evenings from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. We need to be out of the building by 8pm. The address for the Clinton Community Center is 101 South Hicks Street. The cost per person for each roll practice will remain at $5 for ETWC members. Participants who are not ETWC members will be charged $10. Memberships are available at roll practice for $20/family.
You will have to sign an attendance roster every session and an insurance waiver once per calendar year: we will have a sign-in notebook by the entrance.
We will enter from the rear of the building, there’s a large parking lot close to the entrance. We will carry our boats up a short flight of steps onto a deck, where dirty boats will need to be rinsed off before entry using a hose out on the deck. Entry into the pool room is via sliding doors. There are convenient shower/changing rooms and bleachers.
Note that due to liability concerns, there will be no recreational swimming during roll practice.
Finding the place is a little strange. Here are some directions.
Coming into Clinton from Oak Ridge, at the 25W/Rt 61 light take the fork to the
left onto Main St. Almost immediately, turn left beside Walgreen’s onto
Edgewood. Go 1 block, turn right onto Hicks, go a short block, turn left on Gillam.
Go down a steep grade; the football field is on the left and the Rec Center is on
the right. Park near the first stairway; that leads to the boat-rinsing deck and the
pool.
Thanks to Sam, Ed and others who helped make this happen.
Summer Time Schedule
Summer roll practice is typically held every Friday night as soon as people get off of work (typically around 5:30 PM starting in May) at the Clark Center Park. There is usually no cost to come, and it typically ends around 7:30 PM. It is a great place to plan a trip or just get ready for the weekend paddling. If the venue is moved somewhere else (aka a river) it will be posted on the forum, but this rarely happens.
To get to Clark Center Park, which is also known as Carbide Park, from Oak Ridge, go to the intersection of Illinois Avenue and Scarboro Road and go south on Scarboro past the Y-12 Plant and over Chestnut Ridge. Go straight through the traffic light on Bethel Valley Road on Pumphouse road, and turn right at the gate and drive several miles to the park. Drive past the park headquarters and park on the right in the small lot. The place where we practice is directly across the lake from the boat ramp. When the swimming area is open, we park in the picnic area near our roll practice spot.
