Roll practice Friday or trip Sat/Sun 10/3-4? (General Discussion)

by VinnyG, Friday, October 02, 2015, 12:12 (779 days ago)

Hey, eager newbie here! Just bought my first kayak and looking to practice the roll a bit before hitting the water this weekend. I know it's kinda between outdoor and pool season, so I'm not sure where you guys are holding it. Can anyone confirm?

Also, looking to get out on a river with some people that don't mind talking a beginner through the lines and helping out when I have to swim.

FYI, I have a good flat water roll, I've run up to and including class 3, 3+ on the Ocoee and the French Broad (Barnard to Stackhouse last weekend, only swam once, so I don't think I am terrible...just not great with lots to learn).

Happy paddling,

French Broad section 10

I'm leading a trip on section 10 of the French Broad River tomorrow if you'd like to join? We are meeting at the Cracker Barrel at Strawberry Plains at 10:00am to carpool to the river and set shuttle. Section 10 is class I-III+ and is from the town of Hot Springs, NC to the uppermost 25/70 bridge in Tennessee, about 9 miles. The flow is fantastic and there are about 6 of us going. We are experienced and have the proper equipment. Section 10 is a low gradient, wide section of the French Broad with beautiful scenery and historic railroad trestles and remote mountain cliffs and forests. No road or power lines running down the riverbank. It is a 1.5 hour drive from Knoxville.

You will need all you regular gear and safety equipment and your experience level is perfect for this section if you'd like to join us.

If you have any questions or would like to join us tomorrow then feel free to give me a holler or post here.
