Little river (General Discussion)
Hey guys I Am interested in doing a day paddle on the little river in blount county. Want to start in Walland and paddle to cave mill. Anyone have any suggestions or comments regarding this idea. I don't have all of my equipment for a whitewater paddle but I need to get my boat wet.
I have not run this section, but it is rated at Class 1 on the American Whitewater (AW) website. http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/4448/#main
The flow is measured by the USGS Little River near Maryville gauge which is also on our River Gauges page.
AW recommends putting in below the dam at Melrose (it would save you a portage around it). Taking out at Cave Mill should be far enough above Rockford to avoid another portage around the flow-over dam (drowning machine) near Rockford.
Have a great trip!
You can also put in at "The Special People's Park" below townsend and take out either right above the mill dam or upstream at a dirt road leading to the water that is clearly visible on the left going towards townsend...it is right where the road splits and you have to go up to where the center guardrail begins and u - turn back to the road. You want the water to be up above about 230 cfs unless you don't mind dragging your boat in a few places.
