ABRAMS CREEK on 2/15/2018 I am planning a day-trip down Abrams Creek from the campground to the 129 bridge at Chilhowee Lake. 9 miles, class II-II+ and the weather for Thursday looks great!! Good flows and it's a rare chance to paddle this beautiful wilderness run in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

See the East Tennessee Adventure Group meetup website (ETAG) or get in touch with me if you'd like to attend. You'll need class II-II+ experience and all the required gear/kayak/clothing/etc. Planning to meet at the Abrams Creek ranger station at 8:00-8:15 am on Thursday morning. Please contact me beforehand though if interested.

72+ degrees for Thursday with perfect flow!

text or call or see the ETAG meetup for more info.

We're Moving to a New Forum - Action is Needed From You! The East Tennessee Whitewater Club is moving to a new forum! However, there are a few things you’ll need to do if (1) you still wish to be a member of the forum and (2) there is important content you would like to keep posted on the new forum:

1.) To access the new forum click on this link: http://www.etwcweb.com/bb_forum. Please create a new account by selecting “Register” in the top left corner, and then following the instructions.

2.) If there is a previous post you would like to preserve, login to the new forum website, click on the “All Threads” link, and then select “Post Thread” on the top or bottom right-hand side of the page. Then re-post your thread of interest. Note that we will try to save a backup copy of the old forum, in case someone wants to search through it one day. However, if you want a certain post to be on the new forum, you will need to re-create it.

3.) Continue using the new forum for any new posts from this point forward.

The old forum website will be permanently deleted on March 1st, 2018, and replaced with this new forum. Please create your new account and re-create any important posts by this date.

Thank you, and let me know if you have any questions.

Best,

April (on behalf of ETWC)

ETWC Website/Forum Under Construction All,

The ETWC website and forum are currently under construction. If you see error messages (specifically on the forum), don't worry, it's not you and the forum functionalities should still be working. We are currently working on addressing these error messages and getting a new and improved website and forum to you soon!

Thanks, and sorry for any convenience this may have caused!

New Website Addition: Read about the history of ETWC! We've added a new page to the ETWC website with a great article, written by Paul Dutky in 1988, about ETWC's rich history. You can find it here:

http://etwcweb.com/club-history/

It's a highly recommended read for those of you interested in learning about sponsored races, the lost art of club boat-making, and the evolution of ETWC through time!

Nanty Trip Sept This weekend's beginner's trip will again place on the Nantahala River. I will be the trip leader. The plan is to meet at the put-in just above Patton's Run by 11:00 am. Boats will be unloaded and the shuttle will be run. If there are no replies the trip will likely be cancelled.

If the trip is a go, there will be a group meeting at Fort Sanders West at 8:00 AM to carpool to the Nantahala. We usually remain at the NOC after the trip is complete to eat dinner and as such we get back late (typically 9:00 PM).

One note for boaters who have never paddled the Nantahala, the water is cold and unlike the Hiwassee, most of the paddling is in the shade. Regardless of the air temperature, warm clothing is necessary. If you haven't run the Hiwassee or something conquerable already then you probably aren't ready for the Nanty.

If you plan to participate (beginners and experienced boaters) PLEASE communicate your intentions by replying to this posting.

September 2/3 beginner trip cancelled My apologies for having to cancel this weekend’s ETWC Beginner Hiwassee Trip. I'm in Physical Therapy for both shoulders and Billy Bob who had planned on being my substitute trip coordinator took a spill on his mountain bike yesterday and has road rash on his knee. Not good for a C-boater. Hopefully someone may want to run a trip elsewhere. If so, please post any trip alternatives.
